The Kiwanis Club of Timmins is a service club that has been raising funds for the children of Timmins since 1923. Our objectives are to support child and youth activities, support children with special needs, and provide community service.
The Kiwanis Club of Timmins meets for dinner every Tuesday at Siva’s Family Restaurant at the Timmins Square from 6:30pm to 8:00pm.
We sponsor the following groups:

OUR HISTORY:
We have been serving the children of Timmins since 1923. We support child and youth activities, support children with special needs, and provide community service.
We have sponsored the #10 Kiwanis Squadron of the Air Cadets since their inception in 1941. They were one of the first cadet units in Canada.
We have sponsored the 5th Timmins Cub Pack since 1935, although they have folded due to lack of leaders. Beavers, cubs and scouts have since been reinstated. We sponsored Jeannettes for young girls. They suffered from the same leadership problems as the cubs. We sponsor kids soccer and hockey teams. We assist the Timmins Concert Singers. We sponsored the Angler Young Angler Fishing Tournament for youth for three years. We run a biweekly bingo with the funds going to youth activities. We operated a wilderness camp on Gibson Lake Road.
The Kiwanis Club was instrumental in the development of the Children’s Treatment Centre. We made a large donation towards their playground which is accessible to the handicapped. We support the Kiwanis kids in Motion, a youth group at the Treatment Centre.
We have sponsored Beauce Carnival for 47 years. This is our major fund raising project. Prior to that we sponsored various midways and circuses.
For many years we worked with the Easter Seal Society to raise funds for children with special needs. Money was raised through Snowaramas, Telethons, Bike-a-ramas, Walk-a-thons, turkey shoots, variety shows, monster bingos, TV bingo, and house draws. We organized Easter Seal Clinics which brought in doctors from Toronto to examine local handicapped kids.
In the 1920’s and 30’s we furnished and equipped the children’s ward at St. Mary’s Hospital. We furnished and equipped the Children’s Aid Shelter. We established a summer camp for boys at Barbers Bay. We operated school hockey leagues.
In the 40’s we supplied milk to underprivileged children. We attended Juvenile court sessions to assist the court and help the juveniles. We supplied glasses to needy children. We collected over two million tons of scrap metal to assist in the war effort. We ran a safe driving program. We put on minstrel shows. We sponsored Bernard and Barry Midway Shows.
In the 50’s, along with the Y’s Men’s Club, we put on the Northern Ontario Exhibition, which had agricultural displays, household appliances, manufacturing displays, entertainment, contests and handicrafts.
In the 50’s we supported the establishment of the Ontario Crippled Children’s Centre in Toronto. We also had a Swine Club where kids were given piglets to raise. We sponsored a 4H club.
We ran the Carnival Queen Contest from 1964 till 1993 and revived the pageant for the year 2000.
Every year we had a Christmas Party for the Easter Seals Kids.
During the 70’s we hosted the Carling-O’Keefe World Wrist Wrestling Championships, which brought Bobby Hull to town.
Wrestler Whipper Billy Watson made several appearances in Timmins to promote the Easter Seals Snowarama.
We ran three house draws to raise funds for Easter Seals. We also ran a TV Bingo.
We sold Christmas Trees in conjunction with Canadian Tire for many years.
We held Dragon Boat Races for two years at Porcupine Lake.
We have donated money to the Timmins and District Hospital Foundation on several occasions.
Along with the Rotary Club, we held dinners at Siva’s Restaurant where the club members waited tables, cleaned tables, did the dishes. The funds raised supplied defibrillators to the local arenas and assisted the hospital.
For 15 years we held a fishing tournament at the Cache Campground. Prior to that it was held at the Mattagami River in Timmins. Over two hundred fishermen participated each year. The money raised was donated to the Cochrane Temiskaming Children’s Treatment Centre.
We ran the Angler-Young-Angler fishing tournament for three years. This is a program sponsored by Lund to encourage youth to take up fishing.
We participate with the MNR Conservation Officers each summer by supplying tackle for underprivileged youth for the Take-a-Kid-Fishing program.
For the past four years, along with the Kiwanis Foundation of Canada, we have provided scholarships at each of the local five high schools.
We have assisted the CNIB fund raising campaign by donating a boat for their fishing tournament.
We donated two sledges to youths from the treatment centre so that they could participate in sledge hockey. We also donated a skiing device.
We donated towards a lighting system for TH&VS’s music program, Sonic Democracy. ($10,000.00)
We purchased a mat for the Theriault High School wrestling team. ($10,000.00)
And we are always ready to supply equipment or help with expenses for children with special needs.
We purchased a service dog for an autistic child.
We sponsor the kids’ program at the annual Kayak Festival. We also give away cotton candy at this festival.
We donated funds for a playground at the women’s shelter.
We donate annually to Kiwanis International Eliminate Project.
We host a Christmas Party for the Kiwanis Kids in Motion – children with special needs involved with the Cochrane Temiskaming Children’s Treatment Centre.
We donate to various charities as well as to children with medical, transportation or equipment needs.
